Many can agree that the past few years have been challenging and unpredictable, but this school year it seems as though things are going back to a new type of normal. Specifically, when considering our theatre department, the past few productions, if put on at all, have required restrictions due to the pandemic. However, this year, the theatre program at MHS has an exciting year ahead with fun, dynamic shows, without restrictions.

During the fall, the MHSTW puts on a play. This year’s play is called “Myth Adventures: Five Greek Classics.” This play follows the storyline of, much like the title, five Greek myths. The five myths include that of King Midas, Orpheus, Echo and Narcissus, Daedalus and Icarus, and Theseus and the Minotaur. Each myth is a one act performance that is about fifteen minutes long. When combining all of these myths together, a play full of quests, challenges, and various adventures is created, guaranteeing a dynamic and engaging performance for all who are involved. The actors of the MHSTW are sure to enhance this comedic spin on these classic myths.

Later this school year, the MHSTW will put on a musical. This years musical is the “Wizard of Oz.” This is a classic musical that is sure to be enjoyable for those who come to see it. If you are unfamiliar with the storyline, the “Wizard of Oz” follows the story of Dorothy and her dog Toto after they are abruptly removed from their quaint home by a tornado that takes them into the magical land of Oz. The two follow the yellow brick road in attempts to return back to their home in Kansas while encountering various visitors and obstacles along the way. The recreation of this family-favorite music by the MHSTW cast and crew will incorporate elaborate sets, music, and choreography put together for weeks on end prior to each performance.

As this school year is the first year in close to three years that the theatre program at MHS has been able to put on both a fall play and spring musical without restrictions, the entire cast and crew are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the theatre. This years’ productions are sure to be an exciting return to theatre at MHS as we all remember it, so don’t be afraid to get involved. Keep an eye out on the MHSTW instagram page and the school announcements for updates, and be sure to come to the performances!
